Circle Round the Sun

1. As you circle round the sun
And you gain another year
Will your footprints remain?
In the warm biosphere
Tread so lightly
Breathe so the birds cannot hear
2. As you circle round the stream
To the place you were born
In the safety of shade
And your gravel bed home
Dying, spawning
New life will rise when you’re gone
3. As you fly among the flowers
Gathering the dust of gods
Will you visit the trees?
Bearing fruit for the choir
Pollen falling
Bees are the blossoms’ desire
4. As you circle round the sun
May your lonely heart keep time?
With the wings of the grouse
As he drums through the pines
Flushed when startled
Beautiful feathered designs
5. As you circle round the sun
May the spirits sing to you
In the voice of the trees
In the call of the loon
Scattered lightly
Stealing the light of the moon
6. As you fly among the stars
And you float above the clouds
Did you think you would fall
All the way to the ground
Holes in ozone
